Why Am I Running?

“Neighborhoods First” is my agenda. Greenville is much more than Downtown. Our neighborhoods are denser from decades of construction and expansion. We must address infrastructure for storm water run-off, the replacement of lost tree cover, the maintenance of sidewalks and street surfaces, and the removal of unused cable and phone wires. We must add pocket parks, fill the gaps in sidewalk connectivity and prioritize enforcement of traffic laws. The 8-10% annual growth in the City’s operating and capital budgets must be tamped down. As a public fiduciary, I will examine the rationale of programs and the details of budgeted spending"

About Me

I am a local guyI grew up in Greenville, walked to Blythe and Sara Collins, and graduated from J.L. Mann while attending Furman. I majored in accounting and management science at Duke. I became a Certified Public Accountant in South Carolina. I later earned MBA and JD degrees at the University of Chicago. I practiced transactional law with regional firms until 1991, and then largely worked as counsel for a NASDAQ client. In 2005, I retired and returned to Greenville to provide in-home care at Swansgate – Dad was paraplegic and Mom had a host of issues. I gathered all signatures to petition for speed humps in my Augusta Circle nieghborhood. I was a dogged critic of the redistricting splitting the larger Augusta Road community.

Mike's Priorities -
Neighborhood FIRST
  • Replace, restore and expand lost tree cover
  • Improve storm water drainage infrastructure
  • Build and equip pocket parks
  • Close sidewalk grid gaps and install benches
  • Calm cut-through traffic
  • Remove cables and phone wires
  • Revive civic associations
  • Respect property taxpayers

And then so much more …

Did You Know?

In November 2021, voters south of Augusta Road and Interstate 85 helped to re-elect Wil Brasington in District 4. But 14 months later, City Council transferred several thousand residents south of Augusta Road and Interstate 85 from District 4 to Ms. Flemming’s District 2. Without our consent or vote, Council appointed Ms. Flemming to “represent” us until November 2025. When no one else stepped forward, I decided to challenge Ms. Flemming, the progressive leader of the City Council Democrats.
